Why I Do This Work

I first became a coach to help masters and menopausal athletes feel strong in their training again. But as an Indigenous athlete and coach, I’ve experienced firsthand how the running industry can claim to be inclusive while still leaving out entire communities.
My journey through spaces like Game Changers, She Runs This Town, ReNew Earth Running, RIDC, Sweat Club, and Native-led initiatives has taught me something clear: representation doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built—through invitation, equity, and real accountability.
Over the years, I’ve gone from coaching athletes to also speaking, writing, and consulting on the deeper issues of diversity and inclusion in running. My perspective is shaped by:
-
Living as an Indigenous woman and athlete in a space that often erases Native presence on the very lands we run.
-
Coaching masters and menopausal athletes, where invisibility and exclusion take different but parallel forms.
-
Serving on boards, mentoring coaches, and partnering with groups who are pushing for representation at every level.
What I’ve Seen & Spoken On

I don’t shy away from saying what others avoid. My writing and posts have sparked tough but necessary conversations—about exclusion in trail running, token gestures in brand campaigns, and the harm of performative “equity” initiatives.
These conversations have been shared widely, written about in industry publications, and—most importantly—have pushed organizations to take meaningful action. Some examples:
-
Donating training plans and shoes to orgs like Native Women Running, We Run Long, and ReNew Earth Running.
-
Serving on the board of ReNew Earth Running and contributing to RIDC’s Freedom to Run program.
-
Coaching through the Game Changers initiative, mentoring new BIPOC coaches, and sharing my story on panels that center equity in sport.
-
Highlighting organizations like We Run Long, Trail Mix Fund, Broken Arrow Skyrace, Antelope Canyon X, and The Active Joe, who are proving what true inclusion can look like.
These experiences have shown me that accountability in running isn’t hypothetical—it’s possible. The question is whether organizations are willing to act.
Why 'Representation in Motion'?

I chose this name because representation isn’t static. It’s not just a photo on a website or a statement in a press release. It’s movement. It’s culture. It’s who feels invited in—and who feels they belong.
When organizations bring me in, we don’t just talk about optics. We dig into actions:
-
From waivers that actually remove barriers (paired with outreach, gear, and travel support)
-
To volunteer and staff training that creates a safe, welcoming culture
-
To partnerships with Indigenous and BIPOC-led groups who should be at the center of trail and road running, not at the margins
Not Your Typical DEI Work

This isn’t about corporate trainings or box-checking. My work doesn’t live in PowerPoint slides or one-off workshops. It’s grounded in lived experience as an Indigenous athlete and coach, combined with years of hands-on work in the running community.
I don’t approach this from the outside looking in—I’m part of this sport, with a lens shaped by both advocacy and coaching. That means I understand the culture, the barriers, and the opportunities in ways a typical DEI consultant often can’t. What I offer is running-specific, action-focused, and designed to move your event or organization from performative gestures into real accountability.
